We believe Baptism is an important first step in following Christ. Here are some common questions about Baptism:
What is Baptism?- Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in identifying with Christ and His salvation.
What About Being Baptized Twice?
Our church recommends that you be baptized again if you have not been baptized by immersion since you became a believer. It doesn't devalue a prior experience but simply reflects your desire to be baptized in the same way Jesus was baptized. Every minister at Common Ground has been baptized by immersion as Jesus demonstrated and commanded us to follow.
Can My Family Be Baptized Together?
Yes! If each family member understands fully the meaning of baptism, and each one has personally placed his/her trust in Christ for salvation, we encourage families to be baptized at the same time. It is a wonderful expression of commitment.
Will I have to say anything?
Pastor David or whomever is baptizing will probably ask you if you have made a decision to follow Christ. You won’t have to give any big speeches.
What Should I Wear?
You should wear whatever you would be comfortable in getting wet. We suggest dark clothing and some wear swim suits under their clothing.
What Should I Bring with me?
Bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag for your wet clothes. Restrooms are close by for changing.
